Build My Rank

[tweetmeme]

3/20/12 Update: Unfortunately Build My Rank has closed its doors for good due to Google deindexing its network. RIP Build My Rank. It was good while it lasted…

Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite link building services, Build My Rank. I’ve been using it as one of my main link building tools for the past 7 months now, and I’ve gotten some really nice results with it.

It offers a lot of unique features compared with other link building services so in this Build My Rank review, I’m going to give a brief overview of how it works, and then share some of the results I’ve gotten from using it.

Build My Rank Summary
Create high quality contextual backlinks on PR1 to PR4 blogs in the private Build My Rank blog network.

Price: Starting at $59/month. 10 Free Link Trial.
Official Site: BuildMyRank.com

How It Works

Build My Rank is a private blog network, consisting of blogs ranging from Page Rank 0 to Page Rank 6. You get backlinks by posting your own articles to the network. Articles need to be a minimum of 150 words long, and you can add one backlink with the anchor text of your choice for every 150 words in your article.

Each article you submit gets posted to one blog on the network. However, Build My Rank does some additional steps behind the scenes to get your posts indexed and ranking better.

First, an RSS feed is created for your article and submitted to a number of different RSS aggregators like Feedage and FeedAgg. Second, your article gets posted to a number of social bookmarking and Web 2.0 sites. According to the FAQ, you’ll get about 50 extra backlinks to each article.

All articles you submit are monitored to see if they are indexed by Google, and if they aren’t, Build My Rank will continue to build backlinks to your article to ensure that it does. From my dashboard, I can see that my Post indexing rate is in the high 90% range which is terrific for these types of links.

Build My Rank Benefits

  • Strict Quality Control – All posts are manually verified before going live. Spun content will not be accepted, so you really need to write decent unique articles that are readable and make sense. While annoying to some, this is great for keeping the network free from spam and junk articles.
  • Transparent – Most blog networks are pretty secretive. You have no idea where your articles are being posted to. Build My Rank is quite the opposite. You can easily locate where your posts are being published and Build My Rank shows you a nice breakdown of what PageRank sites your posts are on.
  • Outsource Accounts – Most people will probably want to outsource their Build My Rank article submissions. So by creating an outsource account, you make it easy for your writers to login themselves and post articles without any intervention from you.

Build My Rank Cons

  • Only Link To One Domain Per Post – When you write an article, you have to select one domain to use in that post. You can link to any page on that domain, but you can’t link to any of your other domains or even external sites.
  • Only 5 Domains For Lowest Membership – New accounts are limited to 5 domains for the lowest $59/month membership.

Build My Ranks Results

I’ve been a member of Build My Rank since November, 2010, and I’ve already posted 784 into the system. Of course, the majority of these posts were outsourced, but I have written quite a few posts myself as well.

As you can see from my dashboard, about 95% of the posts are placed on PR1 to PR4 blogs.

Build My Rank Dashboard

Although Build My Rank allows you to submit short 150 word posts, I’ve had minimal success with these types of posts. Instead, I usually write posts at least 300 words long, which has given me better results.

Build My Rank Case Study

No Build My Rank review would be complete without a case study, so for the past couple of weeks I’ve setup an experiment with 3 different keywords on 3 different sites. I made sure to pick sites have not had any active backlinking done for at least 3 months.

Not a perfect test by any means, but hopefully good enough to show the effects of building links with BMR.

For each keyword, I wrote a daily 300 word article for 7 days. Each article included one link with the keyword as anchor text.

I began my test on June 1st, 2011 and ended June 18, 2011. I used Rank Tracker to keep track of the SERPs of each keyword.

Keyword 1 (hard) – 1.63 million inurl results. Starting rank: 41. Ending rank 30.

Build My Rank - Keyword 1 Results

Keyword 2 (medium) – 72,900 inurl results. Starting rank: 15. Ending rank: 9

Build My Rank - Keyword 2 Results

Keyword 3 (easy) – 1,670 inurl results. Starting rank : 89. Ending rank: 27

Build My Rank - Keyword 3 Results

As you can see, I did see positive movement from each of the keywords I tried to target. It will be interesting to see if the rankings continue to trend higher over the next couple of weeks.

Still, not too bad though with just a handful of posts. Mix in some Build My Rank posts with other link building methods like I normally do, and I’m am pretty confident you will see some nice results with it.

Build My Rank vs Unique Article Wizard (and other blog networks)

As you can tell from this review, Build My Rank is quite a bit different from other popular link building blog networks like Unique Article Wizard and SEOLinkVine. The latter, require you to submit spun content and blast them to many sites on the network. This gives you the link diversity you need to rank higher, but in general your articles will be posted on lower quality sites.

With Build My Rank, you have to write your own unique content and it gets posted to a single high quality blog in the network. Both types of networks have their place when you’re trying to get high rankings, and I think they complement each other quite well.

Build My Rank vs Linkvana

A better comparison would be Build My Rank vs Linkvana and Blogging Underground. Out of the three, I like Build my Rank the best. Linkvana is just way more expensive at $147 a month, and I never really saw the results that I’ve gotten with BMR. Granted, I was only a Linkvana member for a couple of months, but it just never seemed worth it to me.

Blogging Underground is pretty good as it doesn’t have any url and domain limits. But I don’t like their interface as much and its blog network is much smaller (~400 blogs).

Build My Rank – Is It Worth It?

Build My Rank is one of the better link building services around, but it’s not for everyone. To get good results, you either have to consistently submit articles into the system, or be willing to outsource your submissions (which of course costs extra). There’s just not a lot of automation you can use with BMR.

But if you’re willing to put in the work, Build My Rank is of the best seo tools to add to your toolbox to boost your search engine rankings.

If you’d like to try Build My Rank out, they do have a free trial where you can get 10 free links. No credit card is required which makes it a no risk way to try out the system.

Fantastic review Chris. I have to agree with most of what you have written and I appreciate you sharing your results with us. I’ve been using Build My Rank for a couple of months now, and I’ve been seeing positive ranking improvements as well for my keywords.

Outsourcing the writing is a bit expensive, but for the quality of links I’m getting, I think it’s worth the price so far.

I have been wondering about trying Build My Rank for a while now – having used several link building packages which did not bring me good results. It does seem to be well thought of and your review confirms that. I am seriously considering this now.

I have been using BMR for about 2 months and have to say this is one of my favorite backlink building tools. I have 10 domains currently active and you can archive them so you can free up spots. Make sure you use them for social properties to and mix with other backlink building strategies for the best results. I wouldn’t pay 2.5 per post just oursource on oDesk though :)

Yup, I highly recommend using Build My Rank in conjunction with other link building methods. The more link diversity, the better I’ve found.

Jon July 17, 2011 at 7:28 am

Thanks for the insight.

Can i ask why you think that a 300 word post gets better results with Build My Rank? Is this due to being indexed? Also did you find just including one link in the 350 word post beneficial as opposed to 2 shorter ones? I have been looking into BMR for the last few weeks and am on the verge of taking the plunge but before i do i want to have my post written and ready to go prior to signing up.

Cheers

Hi Jon. No, it doesn’t have anything to do with getting indexed. All my Build My Rank posts seem to get indexed just fine regardless of length.

When I first joined Build My Rank, all I did were 150 word posts. I just never saw that much SERP improvements with them, so I switched over to longer posts which got me more noticeable results.

In terms of links, I normally like to switch things up. For this Build My Rank case study, I just used 1 per post, but usually I switch between 1 or 2 links for my normal link building.

Jon July 17, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Thanks for the response Chris.

Thats interesting, i suppose the longer posts will not only get more recognition but they may possibly be better for building links to in order to increase the authority of the page itself. Building links to a 150 word posts may not look so natural?

Chris July 17, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Yeah, especially with the recent Google Panda updates, I try to keep the quality of my link building as high as possible.

Raghu July 18, 2011 at 10:49 pm

Hi Chris, Thanks for your detailed Build my Rank review, I came across BMR recently. But did not continue as I thought it would be just same as other buy blog review services and cancelled my subscription. I think I would give it try again and check for some time.

Also I just wonder what other link building you are taking up along with Build My Rank, as I believe BMR does most of the things. Can you share your other link building methods, just curious to know.

Reply

Chris July 18, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Hi Raghu. I currently use a wide variety of link building services and software. Besides Build My Rank, I’m currently using Traffic Kaboom, Blog Blueprint, Authority Link Network, and Article Ranks. I also have my team using SENuke X as well.

Raghu July 19, 2011 at 10:46 pm

Hi Chris,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Well, I do have signed up with Build my Rank but I think this is much similar to Blog Review. I have been getting the blog reviews done at buyblogreviews.com which is pretty much same.

But buyblogreviews has an added advantage where blogger himself writes a review and posts on his blog at your own set price. I think BMR acts pretty similar, but Build my Rank needs posts to be submitted either by us or written by some other writer but that would turn us bit additional work.

Buyblogreviews is pretty more easier as you do not need to spend time on writing posts. You simply sign up and create your opportunity, then bloggers bid on your project. You then select bloggers who will then write review for you, after that you approve their review based on your preference that’s done. I am not sure if you have heard of this?

Reply

Chris July 20, 2011 at 5:42 am

Hi Raghu. I checked out the link, but the BuyBlogReviews doesn’t really seem like a link building service to me.

Build My Rank is all about getting content posted to their own private network sites and getting 1 or 2 links back to your own sites.

Jim July 22, 2011 at 6:23 am

Hey Chris,

I’ve been using Build My Rank for a free 15 day trial. I can’t say that I’ve seen results yet. It is only Day 4. Came over your site from Google and I appreciate your tip about writing longer posts of 300 words. I do agree with you that it is not entirely automated but you get a lot of good quality links and besides you get your article posted, then published on social bookmarking sites as well. So I believe there should be more links built from just one post published.

Reply

Chris July 22, 2011 at 10:54 am

Hi Jim, Yeah it will definitely take more then 4 days to start seeing results. But keep at it though, and keep us updated if you do find Build My Rank helpful or not.

Damon September 7, 2011 at 1:01 pm

Hey Chris,

My main concern would be given what Google has done and the direction they are going. What are your thoughts on build my rank moving forward? Since Google is focused on wanting “natural” backlinks, my fear would be that at some point, like with article marketing (ezines, etc), this method will get caught and the sites using it will get penalized.

I know you have had some recent experience with Panda, and did quite a bit of research to crawl out of the hole.

Hi Damon. I highly doubt your site would get penalized if you used Build My Rank, now or in the future. That’s because Build My Rank is probably the strictest blog network I’ve used and all the content you submit HAS to be unique. So in my opinion, these are one of the better quality links you can get – as long as you are submitting decent quality articles.

Jeff September 23, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Hey Chris. Are you still actively using Build My Rank? I’ve recently started doing 1 submission per day with a different link network I think I mentioned to you. I completely agree that the length needs to be 300+ words. I actually aim for 400 words per article I’m submitting. I just don’t think the small posts can really cut it these days. Might be too obvious to Google?

Anywho, keep up the case studies. I’m looking forward to the new ones coming out soon.

Reply

Chris September 23, 2011 at 4:33 pm

Hey Jeff. Yup I’m still using Build My Rank and that network you mentioned to me as well. I tend to do more submissions a day though.

I’m going to be publishing a set of detailed blog network case studies with analysis of my actual link data to my email list. I hope to have the first few ones published this weekend, so look for that if you’re interested. :)

Cheap BMR Posts September 24, 2011 at 10:47 am

I have been writing Build My Rank posts for clients for almost a year. I have uploaded over 7,000 but not a single person has asked me to do 300 word or longer articles. I wonder if they don’t know about this option, maybe I should suggest them to try it out?

Reply

Chris September 25, 2011 at 5:41 am

People are probably driven by the fact that publishing 150 word posts is faster and more cost-effective. I certainly thought that way too when starting out with Build My Rank too.

Jeff September 27, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Hey Chris, one more question: where do you like to find out sourcers to write your content? I’ve been using odesk but the quality seems to really fall off when I hire the cheap labor (like the $1/300 word writers lol). What is your outsourcing budget for these link network content pieces?

Reply

GRose February 24, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Would have to agree there. You can’t be too careful as BMR can ban your account IF you use a writer that has a very low approval rate! It nearly happened to me and was a real headache at the time.

Hi, thank you for the review about BMR. However, I still have doubt in my mind. When I can actually see the results since BMR only give us 15 days trial? Can I see the results within 15 days or less?

Reply

Chris November 15, 2011 at 6:14 am

Hi Onggono. It depends on what kind of keyword you’re targeting. If it’s highly competitive, probably not. But you may see some results with Build My Rank if you target some more long tail phrases.

I really liked the case studies you offered. I am just getting started with BMR and am trying to figure out the best way to utilize it. I think you are the first person I’ve come across that suggested 300+ words… though as others have said, that makes sense.

Just to clarify though, do you think 1 x 300 word post is worth more than 2 x 150 word posts?

Another question I had was if you found a certain # of posts per day worked better than others… (ie. 10 per day, random selection, 3 per day…?)

In regards to the trial, I found it took about 2-3 weeks for the results to kick in. I had an older site that at one time was on page 1 for google (on lasted a few weeks)… then went to page 2 then bounced around and lasted at about 485 (*yeeesh*). It’s not a very competitive keyword so I’ve seen with 10 posts (15o word) that it’s now at 45 after only a few days. So I’m seeing positive results and for me I decided it’s worth the investment.

I’m just trying to figure out the best system for using it…

ie. 10 posts a day, or 3 posts per day… and now I’ll have to try 300 words vs 150 words… :)

Hi Lance. Yes, these are just my own results, but I do seem to get better results with 300 word posts. Regarding your other question, honestly, I don’t really care so much about # of posts per day. I haven’t noticed that having much of an affect one way or the other.

I have used this kind of paid link building service for a while, and I can say that it’s one of the best. Unlike any other services, BMR doesn’t accept duplicate and poorly spun content. Instead, we are required to submit an original and high quality article that gives value to the audience and the private blogs under this network. But the most important thing of all is that BMR helps our websites and blogs to boost their SERPS.

The newer sites haven’t had a huge impact as yet, I need more posts and shall begin to write more 300 word posts which I find easier to do anyhow. Thanks for the great share and review

Hi,

I just want to ask 1 Q, according to BMR policy they allow 10 posts/domain per day so if a person gets a $59 package with 5 domains allowed then it means he can submit 10 x 5 = 50 posts a day?

Does it seem reasonable when for 1 post almost 50 links can be built.

What you people using BMR think the right number of posts submitted everyday for each domain?

Is there any strategy to follow to get the best possible outcome?

Kindly answer on the basis of your own experience!

Regards!

Chris March 18, 2012 at 4:54 pm

I’m not sure where you get that there’s only 10 posts/domain per day. As far as I know it was unlimited, although 50 posts a day is quite a bit. It’s really hard to give an exact number for posts per day. It really depends on your site, keywords, etc.

Just have a look at No.11 Q in the following link where limit for daily submission is discussed:
